The Brown Fox Selvedge is made entirely from 100% organically grown FoxFibre® cotton—naturally brown, unbleached, and completely undyed. The color you see in the fabric? That’s the color of the cotton plant itself.
This fabric starts with Sally Fox, a plant geneticist and cotton breeder who spent more than 30 years working to bring naturally pigmented cotton back to life. In the 1980s, colored cotton existed, but it couldn’t be spun into yarn—the fibers were too short and weak for machine processing. Sally crossbred those heirloom strains with long-staple white cotton, carefully selecting for strength and color. The result was FoxFibre®: cotton that grows in warm, earthy tones and performs like premium Pima.
Her guiding principle was simple:
“If nature makes the color, don’t use dye.”
That same approach runs through this denim. The cotton is grown organically in California, spun into yarn in Osaka, and woven in Okayama on vintage shuttle looms. No dyes, no bleach—just the raw, naturally brown cotton, woven into 13oz selvedge denim with a soft hand and a beautiful matte texture. Over time, it won’t fade like indigo, but it will deepen in tone and develop a warm patina that reflects the way you wear it.
FoxFibre® is more than just color. These cotton plants are naturally pest-resistant, flame-resistant, and drought tolerant. Sally’s breeding program helped lay the foundation for organic cotton standards in the U.S., and her work remains fully traceable, from seed to bale.
